In response to the proposal for a new condominium at 825 N Kings Road, directly next door to the Schindler House, the MAK Center for Art and Architecture initiated a design invitational. Proposals were solicited from a roster of both established and emerging architects worldwide. Each was asked to submit an alternative vision for the property at 825 N Kings Road, one that created a positive tension with the Schindler House and its idyllic grounds. A jury consisting of distinguished and well-respected professionals selected three premiere projects from those received: the proposals by Odile Decq + Benoît Cornette, Peter Eisenman, and Zaha Hadid Architects. All of the submissions were featured in a publication and exhibition at the MAK Center.

Architect Roberto Gottardi (Havana, Cuba) hosted an Italian dinner, prepared by MAK Center director Kimberli Meyer, and presented his work in the context of architecture and politics at the dawn of the 21st century. Gottardi served on the jury for Schindler’s Paradise, July 2, 2003.
